Energy encapsulated in a natural hydrogel. Each serving contains 100 mg of caffeine and provides 25 grams of carbohydrates. Constructed with seven ingredients - with no added colors, preservatives or flavors.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
The GEL 100 CAF 100 contains 100 mg of caffeine – the equivalent of 1.5 espressos – or a cup of brewed coffee. That's a lot compared to most traditional gels. It provides 25 grams of carbohydrates through a unique blend of fructose and glucose (0.8:1 ratio). It contains a high weight-to-energy ratio and contains no added flavorings, preservatives or colorings. Like all our products, it is vegan.
Use GEL 100 CAF 100 alone for shorter durations, or combine it with other Maurten products to ensure you have enough carbohydrates throughout your session.
WHY CAFFEINE?
Caffeine has been shown to promote alertness and reduce perceived exertion and pain. These are properties that may be beneficial in sports performance. GEL 100 CAF 100 can be used to boost caffeine levels - alone, with other sources of caffeine, such as regular coffee - or to achieve sufficient caffeine levels during activity.
QUANTITY OF CARBOHYDRATES
It is well known that our body can use about 60 grams of ingested carbohydrates per hour, in the form of glucose or maltodextrin (polymer of glucose). Using a 0.5:1 combination of fructose and glucose/maltodextrin allows absorption of up to 90 grams per hour. More recent studies have shown that an increased fructose content above 0.5:1 results in even higher absorption. GEL 100 CAF 100 is based on a fructose to glucose ratio of 0.8:1. One serving contains 25 grams of carbohydrates.
GEL 100 CAF 100 – HOW TO USE
Developing a nutritional strategy for races or key sessions is complex. Everyone is different – and the rate of caffeine absorption and metabolism varies from individual to individual. There are two key factors that are important to consider: 1) your body weight and 2) whether you are used to caffeine. Science suggests an intake of 3 mg of caffeine per kilogram of body weight, to improve performance. But again, it's very individual. We have developed general guidelines on how to use the GEL 100 CAF 100, based on our own findings and scientific literature. See our GEL 100 CAF 100 guidelines.
